$1,500 Sign-On Bonus (External Only)
Using established protocols, the Patient Account Specialist will monitor, research and update patient accounts to reconcile and maximize reimbursement. Answers patient, insurance calls and correspondence resolving questions in a time frame that meets or exceeds department standards. Acts as liaison between Patient Accounts and physician offices, insurance carriers and other third-party payers to assist with questions and resolve unpaid accounts. Follow guidelines to adjust accounts based upon the patient/account status (deceased patient, small balance, charity, etc.).
In this position you will:
Research and resolve rejected, incorrectly paid and denied claims in assigned work-files within an established time frame. Verify claims and cash files are being sent and received and ensure accurate payment posting is applied to patient accounts from both patients and insurance carriers.
Research and resolve unpaid claims on work files as assigned by supervisor.
Respond professionally to all inquiries from patients, Pacific Medical Centers’ staff or payers regarding billing and/or payment questions in a timely fashion. Coordinate information on behalf of patients, providers and business office personnel to respond to inquiries regarding claim billing or insurance Explanation of Benefits and third party liability claims.
Contact payers to identify reason for payment discrepancies. This may include verifying insurance coverage and benefits, obtaining required authorizations and referrals for hospital admissions and surgery procedures or following up with clinics that are responsible to obtain the missing information.
Verify that all charges within a patient’s account have been billed to the patient’s correct insurance plan. Contact payer by telephone or written letter to pursue insurance payment.
Required qualifications for this position include:
- One (1) year functional experience using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel)
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Associate's Degree in a business-related field
One (1) year experience in either physician/hospital billing or other healthcare business setting
Three (3) months customer service experience with patients and insurers
One (1) year collection experience
One (1) year experience using EPIC, payspan and insurance portals
