PacMed is looking for a Registered Nurse - Certified Specialist, Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) to work in Madison Ambulatory Surgery at Pacific Medical Centers - First Hill Madison in Seattle, WA. The Clinic RN provides professional nursing care as directed by the Washington State Nurse Practice Act and Pacific Medical Centers policies, procedures, and protocols; i.e. provides primary and specialty health care services in collaboration with other members of the health care team while integrating the nursing roles of clinical, teaching, consulting, care coordination/case management, and leadership. In this position you will: - Assess patient GI and Pain Management procedure needs, develop a plan of care for each patient, deliver direct care, evaluate outcome of care, and adjust plan and subsequent interventions accordingly. - Assist providers during endoscopic and pain procedures. - Triage patients, both in person and by phone to prepare patients timely access to the ASC. - Provide patient ASC preparation information, advice and health care teaching to patients and their families in person or via telephone as part of the ASC pre-admitting process. - Administer medications within the scope of registered nursing practice, including emergency medications. - Support the operations of the department by assisting with clerical duties as needed. We are seeking a RN Clinic Certified Specialist Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Under the supervision of the ASC Supervisor or Manager, plans, directs and delivers high quality comprehensive nursing care in accordance with Washington State Nurse Practice Act and Pacific Medical Center's ASC By-Laws. Follows professional standards of nursing practice, procedures, and protocols. Under the direct supervision of the LIP provides comprehensive procedural sedation services in collaboration with other members of the ASC health care team. Integrates nursing process in carrying out effective patient care and leadership roles. Utilizes a collegial and systematic approach to nursing practice. Ensures ASC efficiency through active participation of quality assurance, process improvement, infection control and staff development program initiatives and oversight. Adheres to state regulatory and compliance guidelines for ASC. Provides specialized care in the ASC, utilizes critical thinking skills, experience, knowledge, and demonstrated competency in patient pre-admission screenings, preadmit, intra-procedure and recovery of ASC patients. ESSEN In this position you will: • Clinical Role: • Assesses patient GI and Pain Management procedure needs, develops a plan of care for each patient, delivers direct care, evaluates outcome of care, and adjusts plan and subsequent interventions accordingly. • Administers medications within the scope of registered nursing practice, including emergency medications. • Performs continuous advanced life support monitoring during procedures and through recovery of sedated patients. • Delivers RN-administered patient care services following Pacific Medical Centers approved protocols. • Assists providers during endoscopic and pain procedures. • Identifies signs and symptoms of life-threatening situation and initiates appropriate and timely interventions to address them. • Assists with case preparation pulls appropriate equipment and supplies. May assists with maintaining the accurate information on provider’s preference cards. Reviews case for procedural needs and ensures the correct diagnostic and therapeutic devices are available. • Assists in performing endoscopic procedures in accordance with ASC policies and procedures. Anticipates and prepares for changing needs. • Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure. Disposes of sharps and trash. Responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and storage of scopes and reusable devices. Ensures that unused supplies are returned appropriately. • Documents subjective and objective assessment, evaluation, plan and interventions for in-person and telephone interactions. • Teaching Role: • Collaborates with patient and family to provide appropriate patient education and discharge plan, based on patient need. • Instructs patients individually or in groups, using a variety of methods, reinforcement and review. • Evaluates and documents the outcome of instruction; incorporates changes into the patient teaching plan. • ASC Pre-Admit Nurse Role: • Triages patients, both in-person and by phone, to prepare patients timely access to ASC. • Provides patient ASC prep information, advice and health care teaching to patients and their families in person and via the telephone as part of the ASC pre-admitting process. • Seeks consultation of ASC Medical Provider on patients requiring specialized care in the ASC. • Leadership Role: • Coaches, instructs and acts as role model for designated health care team workers. • Delegate’s clinical and non-clinical tasks to designated Medical Assistant health care team members according to Pacific Medical Centers ASC approved scope of practice guidelines. • Maintains current knowledge and answer questions of other staff on procedures, policies, etc. Obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that arise. • Gives on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. • Mentors new RN’s and MA’s on specific procedures and work techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies when indicated. • Teaches and mentors new staff in all duties and procedures performed within the department. • Checks on work in progress, participates in performance audits, and reviews completed work to see that the supervisor’s instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. • Distributes and balances workload among available staff, assuring timely accomplishment of the work and that each employee has enough work to keep busy. • Reports to the supervisor on performance, progress, problems, training needs and quality improvement opportunities. Maintains employee records and reports as needed. • Administrative duties such as staff schedule, participation in sick call, etc as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications this position include: Education: Nursing degree (Baccalaureate, Associate or Diploma) from an accredited school of nursing. Coursework/Training Training in conscious sedation and equipment used within the ASC department. License/Certification: • Currently licensed to practice nursing in Washington State. • Basic Life Support and ACLS certification. • Certification in specialty preferred. (CCRN Certification, CNOR Certification, or CGRN Certification). Experience: 3 years Recent RN experience in an in-patient care or ASC setting. 3 years Recent experience in an ASC or acute care setting: Critical care, Operating Room, Emergency Room, Recovery Room, Endoscopy, GI Lab. Preferred qualifications for this position include: Education: Coursework/Training Training in equipment and instrument Sterilization. Coursework/Training Training in sterile technique. License/Certification: • Currently licensed to practice nursing in Washington State. • Basic Life Support and ACLS certification. • Certification in specialty preferred.
