Find what you’re looking for in your career, at PacMed as a Registered Nurse (RN) Infusion Unit (0.9 FTE, Day Shift) to the Madison Infusion in Seattle, WA.
The RN provides professional nursing care as directed by the Washington State Nurse Practice Act and PMC policies, procedures, and protocols, i.e., provides primary and specialty health care services in collaboration with other members of the health care team while integrating clinical, teaching, consulting, care coordination/case management, and leadership nursing roles. Utilizes a systematic approach to nursing practice, incorporating the principles of Nursing Process when delivering care. Provides care requiring specialized skills, experience, knowledge and demonstrated competency.
In this position you will:
Assesses patient needs, delivers direct care, evaluates outcome of care, and adjusts plan and subsequent interventions accordingly.
Administers chemotherapy agents and miscellaneous medications within the scope of registered nursing practice.
Institutes health promotion and preventive care measures, based on patient needs assessment.
Documents subjective and objective assessment, evaluation, plan, interventions and chemotherapy administration.
Reviews laboratory values and responds accordingly, e.g., ordering blood products PRN, adjusting EPO doses per clinical pathway, and initiating neutropenic or bleeding precautions PRN.
Reinforces teaching related to disease process, chemotherapy treatment regimen and management of associated side effects.
Instructs patients individually or in groups, using a variety of methods, reinforcement and review.
Providers chemotherapy and biological agent teaching; teaches self-care to minimize complications and adverse events.
Performs central access teaching.
Consulting Nurse Role:
Provides medical information, advice and health care teaching to patients and their families in person and via the telephone.
Care Coordination/Case Management Role:
Coordinates chemotherapy plan with doctor and/or nurse appointments and outside services.
Coordinates and manages medication regimen with patient.
Assesses emotional status of patient and family and refers to community support and counseling agencies as appropriate.
Counsels patients and families regarding dying, end-of-life care, and advance directives.
Coaches, instructs and role models for designated health care team workers.
Delegates clinical and non-clinical tasks to designated health care team members according to PMC approved scope of practice guidelines.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing or
Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing or
Nursing degree Diploma from an accredited school of nursing.
One (1) year of recent RN experience in a patient care setting.
For oncology infusion: Oncology chemotherapy administration experience.
Proficiency in IV access of all types.
Knowledge of chemotherapeutic agents, and its administration, side effects, management, and patient learning needs.
Demonstrated evidence of methods used to maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing.
Currently licensed to practice in Washington State.
Basic Life Support certification within 3 months of hire.
Preferred qualifications for this position include :
Two (2) years of recent RN experience in a patient care setting.
Recent prior experience in an outpatient setting.
Ability to use an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
